WTF is the pumpkin pandemonium project?

It started out as something to keep me occupied while waiting for my second child to be born last Fall. In between getting bounced from room to room with my wife for a week at the hospital playing the waiting game for her to give birth I tried to occupy my time with some ZBrushing. Things were in a state of flux and it wasn’t easy to figure out what to do so I decided to create a project file I could pop open and get some sculpting done with whatever amount of time I had available. October and Halloween happen to be my favorite time of year, particularly because of pumpkin carving, and I can’t wait for it year after year. So I created a pumpkin basemesh to noodle around with and bypass the mental roadblocks of figuring out what to do with a blank canvas while under duress.

I watch a lot of people who stream digital sculpting and something that’s quite apparent is how often creative block strikes everyone at some point. It can be brief for most or downright crippling for some. The desire to create some kind of solution or outlet to alleviate this reoccurring problem sparked me to push this from just a little fun file into a kitbash project that offers up a lot of creative freedom and exploration for digital artists of all skill levels.

They say that to get good at something you need to dedicate at the very least 10 minutes a day to whatever it is you’re trying to learn. 10 minutes can feel like an eternity when you’re at square one stressing yourself out over not having enough skill or not feeling creative enough to find a starting point. This is a nightmare for creatives. I know this because I’ve gone through it myself on many occasions being the eternal student that I am.

Pumpkin carving is perfect for getting over bouts of creative block or to just have fun. You can’t mess up, well you can, but it’s still fun to screw up. It’s even more fun and forgiving doing so digitally. With the Pumpkin Pandemonium Project you can spend as much or as little time as you want and wind up with some nice looking results and a sense of accomplishment. These small victories can really add up.

And that’s what I hope to do with the Pumpkin Pandemonium Project: give you a tool to make small gains to build your skills and confidence up with. How you use the PPP is up to you and it’s filled with some great brushes and assets to kitbash your way to some kickass pumpkins.

I plan on perpetually expanding the Pumpkin Pandemonium Project, I really do love Halloween and I think that comes through with all the goodies packed inside of it already. You can pick this up on Artstation, Gumroad, Cuberush or Flipped Normals for the price of a cup of coffee. And if you do pick it up and start using, tag me, I would really love to see what people do with it. Thanks for checking this out and the links to where you can find The Pumpkin Pandemonium Project will be after the gallery. Happy sculpting!
