Pixologic ZBrush Summit 2021 Sculpt-Off Entry

This year Pixologic’s ZBrush Summit’s theme for the sculpt-off is “Reimagine” where you have to take an existing character and redesign them in your own way so that they’re still recognizable as that character. It was a tough choice deciding on who to do, I was originally going to do a future version of Ghost Rider (something I will do another time) but in the end I went with another character I’ve been wanting to model for a long time: Scud the Disposable Assassin.

Scud the Disposable Assassin is the main character in his own, an indie comic that brought me great joy back in the 90’s, written and created by Rob Schrab. I really love the character and the comic and have been wanting to do a more realistic yet styilzed take on him for a while now. I figured the Sculpt-Off was the perfect opportunity to do so.

The rules are simple we have three hours to create and render our design using only the basic tools that come standard with ZBrush. Seems daunting but there’s so much versatility with just the standard software that even though there are limitations the possibilities are endless. I’m pretty happy with the end result even though I over-shot the time I wanted to spend on modelling by about 25 minutes so I had less time to focus on coloring, posing, lighting and rendering. I included some extra shots as well to show that I did complete a full character in about 2 hours and 30 minutes.

I had a blast participating in this event and thank Pixologic for opening this up to the public again and for all they do. You can watch the replay of my sculpt on my YouTube channel here:
